Electrolysis is the only Method that is legally permanent according to the FDA. Electrolysis is safe and effective for all skin and hair colors and locaitons

Electrolysis is a new advanced permanent hair removal treatment performed by directing light electrical currents into a hair follicle's natural opening. To accomplish this, we utilize a fine probe. This process slowly causes cellular destruction that makes hair unable to grow.

Electrolysis is safe and effective on all skin and hair types. The amount of treatments needed depends on several variables, like hair thickness, hormone imbalances, age, previous methods of hair removal, and more.

A critical factor in efficacy is a client’s commitment to complete the required cycles. Still, once you have completed the cycle, the follicles will be gone permanently!

Common Questions and Answers about Electrolysis

  • Yes but slowly. All Dermatologist recommend Electrolysis because it works every time on every once. It is safe and effective on all skin types and locations but it does require a commitment.

To start to understand better lets begin by talking about hair growth. Hair grows from follicles in 4 stages and then the hair falls out naturally. Electrolysis only work in the first, second and part of the 3rd stage of hair growth and it is ineffective in last stage and there is no way to tell the difference between the hair stages. Clients need to commit to regular treatments once a week to every other week in the beginning in order to catch the hair in the correct cycle. Clients who come in sporadically and only once a month do not see as good of results as clients that come in regularly.

  • Immediately after the treatment the skin may be slightly red. Most clients have this go away before they even leave the appointment. The hair is plucked out after the hair is treated with electrolysis, so do not put make_up on the area for around 5 hours if possible. Make up can go into the skin and cause irritation.

  • Why Do Women Develop Unwanted Facial Hair?

Many women are surprised when they begin to notice unwanted hair growth on their faces, especially on the chin, upper lip, jawline, neck, or cheeks. While hair growth can be frustrating, it's important to understand that there are many possible causes, and it is often related to hormones.

The most common reasons women develop unwanted facial hair include:

    1. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

One of the most common causes of excessive facial hair growth in women is PCOS, or Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.

PCOS is a hormonal condition that affects the ovaries and can cause the body to produce higher levels of androgens, sometimes called "male hormones." Women naturally have androgens, but when levels become elevated, they can stimulate hair follicles on the face and body to produce darker, coarser hair.

Other symptoms of PCOS may include:

    - Irregular menstrual cycles

    - Acne

    - Weight gain or difficulty losing weight

    - Thinning scalp hair

    - Fertility challenges

Currently, there is no cure for PCOS. However, many women successfully manage their symptoms through medical treatment, lifestyle changes, and hair removal methods.

Even when PCOS is well controlled, some women may continue to develop new facial hairs because the underlying hormonal tendency remains present.

    2. Age-Related Hormonal Changes

As women age, hormone levels naturally change. During perimenopause and menopause, estrogen levels decline. As estrogen decreases, the balance between estrogen and androgens shifts, making androgen effects more noticeable.

    This can lead to:

    - New chin hairs

    - Increased upper lip hair

    - Coarser facial hair

    - Thinning hair on the scalp

Many women who never had facial hair issues when they were younger notice new growth beginning in their 40s, 50s, or later.

These clients may treat some individual hairs with permanent electrolysis, but will keep growing new hairs on the face or in the same area. Electrolysis is a slow permanent treatment for the hair, but it will never stop the hormones in the hot spot area from regrowing in a new different follicle in the same area.

    3. Testosterone Replacement Therapy

Women who use testosterone replacement therapy may develop increased facial or body hair growth.

Testosterone can stimulate dormant hair follicles and convert fine, light-colored hairs into darker, thicker terminal hairs.

Not every woman experiences this side effect, but it is a common reason for increased facial hair growth in women receiving hormone replacement therapy.

    4. Genetics and Family History

Some women are simply more genetically predisposed to facial hair growth. If your mother, sisters, grandmothers, or other female relatives have experienced unwanted facial hair, you may be more likely to develop it as well.

    5. Other Hormonal Conditions

Several other hormonal conditions can contribute to facial hair growth, including:

    - Thyroid disorders

    - Adrenal gland disorders

    - Insulin resistance

    - Hormonal imbalances associated with certain medications

If hair growth develops suddenly or rapidly, it is important to discuss it with a healthcare provider.

    Understanding Hair Removal Treatments

It is important to understand that electrolysis and laser hair removal do not cure the underlying hormonal condition that causes excess hair growth. There is no cure for hormone changes that can cause unwanted hair growth. Continued treatments may be necessary for new growth.

These treatments address the symptom—the unwanted hair—not the hormonal imbalance itself.

For example, if a woman has PCOS, menopause-related hormonal changes, or is using testosterone therapy, her body may continue to stimulate new hair follicles over time.

    Electrolysis

Electrolysis is FDA-approved, safe, and effective for all skin and hair colors, and it has been used for people since 1907. It works by permanently treating individual hair follicles. Once a follicle has been successfully treated and destroyed, that specific follicle should not produce another hair. Because electrolysis targets each individual follicle, it is recognized as a method of permanent hair removal. Electrolysis is slow and may require many treatments. Your results are based on the setting you can handle, the consistency you come in with, and how bad your hormones are making your unwanted thick hair grow.

If a client has a hormone imbalance, it is important to know that electrolysis will not cure the problem; it will only treat the symptom. A client may grow more hair in a hot spot like chin or upper lips but it won't be the same hair that was permanently treated by electrolysis. There is no cure for the naturally occurring hormone changes that can cause unwanted hair growth. Continued treatments may be necessary for new growth.

    Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal can provide significant long-term hair reduction. A laser is great for large areas like legs or back but it is not a permanent hair removal. Hormonal changes may continue to activate new follicles or previously dormant hairs.

Maintenance treatments are often needed, especially when hormonal imbalances are present. Lasers are sold in yearly and lifetime packages for these reasons.

Why Ongoing Hair Growth Can Happen

Many patients ask, "If the hair is permanently removed, why am I seeing new hairs?"

The answer is that hormones can continue to activate different follicles throughout life.

A treated follicle remains treated, but new follicles may become active due to:

    - PCOS

    - Menopause

    - Aging

    - Testosterone therapy

    - Other hormonal changes

This is why some women with ongoing hormonal imbalances may continue developing new facial hair in different areas over the years. We have millions of vellus hairs on our faces that can be affected by hormones, making them dark and thick. If left untreated, the hair growth that is a side effect of these hormones it will worse and worse and worse. Some women have stated they had to shave like a man because of the untreated growth. Some clients, based on medical conditions, may need electrolysis as a continued maintenance in their lives due to the constant new growth from their hormones.

    Key Takeaway

Unwanted facial hair in women is very common and is often related to hormones, genetics, aging, or medical conditions such as PCOS. While electrolysis and laser hair removal can effectively treat unwanted hair, they do not eliminate the underlying cause of the hair growth.

Electrolysis permanently treats individual follicles, while hormonal conditions may continue creating new hair growth elsewhere. Understanding this helps set realistic expectations and allows us to create the most effective long-term treatment plan for each patient.

  • There are many factors that effect the speed of the results. The 1st is staying on a regular treatment plan that slowly reduces the size of the hair until it's gone forever. The 2nd is how thick the hair is; thicker hair takes longer to remove than thin hair. Remember. The third is any hormone imbalances you have can slow down the process for some people. Just remember that the results are PERMANENT and there is no other hair removal option that can offer permanent results. The repetitive time and financial commitment is similar to Waxing except there is less and less hair left to treat each time and you eventually wont have any hair left! The average client will receive several sessions lasting from 15 min to one hour, depending upon the area that needs to be treated. Clients get to create their own treatment plans based on time and finances available.

HOW LONG A TREATMENT TAKES IS ALL BASED ON HOW MUCH HAIR YOU HAVE.

YOUR APPOINTMENT TIMES DECEASES SLOWLY AS THE HAIR STARTS TO DISAPPEAR MAKING YOUR TREATMENTS CHEAPER AND CHEAPER AS YOU GO. IT IS ROUGHLY AROUND 38 TO 68 % REDUCTION IN HAIR THICKNESS EACH TIME IT IS TREATED, UNTIL IT DISAPPEARS.

For example, a small amount of fine lip hair would take much less time and fewer treatments than it would take to underarms. The secret to successful and productive electrolysis is catching each hair in the proper growth cycle and treating it during the optimum growing state. Typically, appointments are scheduled weekly or every other week at first for the first few sessions the you may come in once a month to get a small amount.

Generally, depending on the area and thickness most hair can be cleared in few months or more. Some underarms and removing a beard may take more than a few months but it gets cheaper as you go and the appointments get farther apart as the hair decreases. Because there are 4 different growing cycles, some hair remains hidden at any given time, and it may take several months for most areas. The number of total treatments will vary from area to area and person to person.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a common cause of unwanted hair growth

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal condition that affects many of our clients. Up to 50% of women with this condition go undiagnosed. PCOS is a hormone imbalance on the ovary's that is caused by cyst. This produces irregular hormones that affects a women's mensural cycle, infertility, weight gain, acne, skin problems & unwanted hair growth. Hirsutism, a term for excess hair growth in women, is common with the condition.

Electrolysis is the only type of hair removal approved by the FDA as a permanent way of removing hair. Thousands of women with PCOS utilize electrolysis to permanently get rid of thick hair that often grows on their face, neck, chest, and back. Laser is not legally permanent and some lasers can actually stimulate some hormone sensitive follicles.
